Under extreme conditions, wear a nightcap or even a stocking cap. You
lose a *lot* of heat through the head.
The coldest I've ever been at night was one night Elk hunting when I
didn't have headgear I could sleep in. The only way I could get warm
enough to sleep was to close the top of the sleeping bag over my head.
Then I could sleep until the lack of oxygen woke me up and forced me to
replace the warm stuffy air with freezing fresh air. Then I was so cold
I'd close the sleeping bag and repeat.
