Anybody who posts on a MAILING LIST with the expectation that
their email is going to be *private* is in serious need of a
wake-up, surely.

Mailing lists are public places.

I can appreciate that an archive *does* make a difference, but
I honestly can't imagine posting on a list anything I wouldn't
be willing to have on the web.

The worst consequence I can think of is spiders collecting email
addresses. It is nice when the archive site mangles or hides header
information such as emails that may be privately identifiable.

IMHO, anyway.  Seriously, though, what would you have not said
here, if you hadn't missed this announcement (I don't remember
seeing it either -- but as I say, I always assume that anything
I say on a mailing list is public record.  Even if that does
turn out to be embarrassing).
