Properly configured AV programs will stop a virus.  At least, that's
what I think they're supposed to do.  All the ones I know of will scan
inside zips and other archive formats.  The only solution is to send an
encrypted message, such as with GPG.  Ask the ISP for a public key with
which to encrypt the content and they will be able to decrypt it on receipt.

That's my best guess.
