Maybe the Microsoft user would say "Standards? We don't need no
steenking standards -- we've got MICROSOFT EXCHANGE!"
But maybe not. Michael B. Parker, can you point us to open
documentation of the standard(s) to which your email conforms?

If Microsoft's strategy is "embrace, extend, and extinguish", this is
the "extinguish" phase in action. It's "Pay us to use Exchange, or
don't use email".

Some folks cherish the freedom to read the computer programs that they
use. Such a person is rightfully offended when asked to give up this
freedom, as necessary to render a document in some proprietary format.
Convert a Microsoft Word document to an open standard before posting.
