(the server is a couple hundred megabytes...)

While you are there, you might want to check into this page as well:

Basically, these are pre-configured instances of "some application" that will run on "any standard x86 desktop or server" -- I'm not sure if that means it takes over the entire machine (like a "Live-CD") or if it can run under a "foreign" OS as an independent self-contained unit. However, in the list of pre-built applications I see:

   Gentoo 2006.0 advanced
   free dos beta
   freespire beta 2
   ubuntu 6.06
kubuntu 6.06 [kde instead of gnome(?)]
xubunti 6.06 lts [xfce instead of gnome]
   Suse
     openSuse 10.1
     SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9
   foresight linux
   redhat
     6.2
     fedora core
     enterprise
NexentaOS alpha 5 [noted as "GnuSolaris"...]
   openBSD/FreeBSD/PC-BSD (KDE based)
pocket linux (based on "kde light" -- gotta see that!]
   puppy linux
Syllable (???) "reliable and easy to use GPLed OS"
   Debian
     Kanotix [german based debian]
ReactOS -- "free software ground-up implementation of a Microsoft Windows(R) XP compatible operating system" [I kid you not!]
   Minix (why not?)
   Persistent Knoppix

And that's just under "operating systems"! Other intriguing items include pre-built Database servers, a "voicemail RSS feed generator" [turns voicemail into podcasts...], mediawiki, NAS/SAN solutions, a "tamper proof internet café PXE server" and so on.
