You know, there may be some lightweight ones designed for an end-user
host.  It seems like I've seen some but I can't name one right now.

Sure, there are advantages in being able to run your own server rather
than being limited to what "Desktop Linux" means.

None of this changes the discussion--it's nice, but out of reach of the
users that "Desktop Linux" implies.  It's nice to have a private jet
too, but not everyone gets one no matter the advantages.
