Good idea, thanks!  And ethereal (aka wireshark) is available as a
Debian package.

Come to think of it, another program that could be used to capture the
complete dialogue is tcpdump.

This secret chatter between browser and server is one of the chief
reasons I want to cut the browser out of the loop in the first place.
