I wrote a short article on SCMs a couple years ago:

IMO (then) was, Perforce if you have a complex lifecycle (i.e., lots of
branching/merging) and $s, otherwise subversion. Lately, I've heard good
things about git (http://git-scm.com/), but haven't looked into it.
