a question others had at dsl reports

often you can get a "free" modem/router after rebate
from att, so why not consider the option?
( yes, i believe they will attempt to throw PPoE at you. )

i would just watch or wait for that deal to happen...

ssh tunnel - if you are forced to get another IP
address during the session the tunnel iirc will
break.

remember tho, i believe that the dhcp addresses given 
by the phone company doesnt change as often as on
cable, so you shouldnt experience this issue as
often unless you are keeping your ssh sessions up
for long periods of time.
