Yes you can. All you have to do is have a file called CNAME in your
website repository and point your existing A record to 204.232.175.78

And there is no reason for these capabilities to be somewhere and used
in conjunction with a static site. I just think the main page of the
club should be as fault tolerant (or people tolerant) as possible.

Yes so lets keep the core simple and anything additional is great but
holding up having a more long term and maintainable solution.
