It's admittedly a bare shadow of its former self, but they still do have 
some electronic components.  There's a fair amount of space devoted to 
LEDs, for example, though it's possible that is only because one might 
have to replace an LED in networking or pro audio gear.

For a decent selection of parts from a place where the guy behind the 
counter actually knows what a MOSFET is, the best local place I know(*) 
is Electronic City in Burbank.  You should be able to find 470 uF caps 
elsewhere, but EC is still an actual electronics store instead of a 
Cellphone Shack.

(*) If you know a better place, I'd like to know about it.
