heroku has a free tier. but you have to deploy with git. There is no ftp
or ssh.
aws ec2 is free for the first 2 years, and gives you a VM but is a lot more
setup compared to heroku depending on what you're used to.

Can you give us an example of a domain/company that is offering "free"
hosting? there is no free lunch in life. I personally have an account with
HostItcheap.com for $5/month and it allows a lot of things you are looking
for and more.

Hello all,
I need advice please, I need a couple of email addresses, ftp with very
little space and a simple web site to be hosted for free, I have a
registered domain name, but I am confused with all the offers and claims
from all the sites offering to host for free.
Please share any comments and experience with any particular site that you
think is worth the trouble.
Thank you
Ed
