[SGVLUG] 1/11 Meeting recap

Hi all,
We had a pretty good turnout at tonight's LUG meeting, even though I didn't advertise it very aggressively.  I think we had a little over 30 people.  Saw some folks I hadn't seen in a while and we've been getting returning new people.  Thanks for coming; it was nice to see everyone.  

Before I get to the recap, the Feb 8th LUG meeting will be at OpenX.  The speaker will be Paul Ramirez from JPL.  He has a lot of experience with open source, mainly with Apache projects, I think.  The talk is called "5W1H of Getting Involved in Open Source" and will be about the who, what, when, why, where, and how of getting involved with open source, based his personal experience.   I will send out an abstract and bio when I get one.  


RECAP:
Jess gave a nice explanation of the Spectre and Meltdown security flaws.  It'll be interesting to see if there will be any talks at SCaLE about this.
I got some very good feedback for my AWK talk.  Thanks so much for the comments and advice.  I have some new ideas on how to enhance both the content and the delivery.  I will also take the time to test my slides in the room at SCaLE because the colors can look very different on the projector.

CodeDay is a 24-hour hackathon aimed at high school and college students between the ages of 14 and 25. It is held in multiple cities at the same time. It will be Feb 18-19th, probably at a co-working space in Westlake.
