Hi Chime,

Strictly speaking not all apps are graphical.  But that isn't exactly what
you are asking I expect.  Most apps that you interact with do bring their
own UI.  While Android apps typically have a visual UI, they often support
accessibility to varying degrees which should help navigating the visual
interface with appropriate callouts for buttons and input fields and the
like.

While I am not sure if apps installed through one of the app stores allows
for apps to be executed from a separate terminal emulator, I would guess
that a terminal emulator might provide a method for installing additional
terminal apps.  (Specifically since apps are usually sandboxed I don't know
if one app can directly invoke another separately installed app except
through intents which are not really standardized for this use case as far
as I know)

As far as your app "disappearing", it sounds like you were descibing the
app being closed after a period of inactivity.  This is quite normal and
expected in Android for apps which are in the background to be closed at
any time.  Often this is related to memory management but it can happen at
any time.

I have never looked at alternate sources for apps so I cannot provide any
useful insight there.
